Acts Celebrates One Year

The A.C.T.S. Program, a ministry of the First United Pentecostal Church of Ravenswood is marking its first year of meetings.  A.C.T.S. which stands for Alcohol Chemical Treatment Series is a faith based program that focuses heavily on the recovery of those that have been drawn into the destructive lifestyle of addiction.

“No one wakes up and says I’m going to be an addict.”  Says Pastor David Johnston, who also serves as the coordinator and instructor for the program.  Pastor Johnston is quick to tell you that recovery is a difficult process, but not as difficult as living in addiction.   Our purpose is to help addicts learn that they can overcome their addiction, through the grace of God.

“To often addicts try to get freedom from their addiction on their own terms, and in their own way.  While that is admirable, more often than not, they are setting themselves up to fall.  They need support.  Sometimes it comes from family, sometimes it doesn’t.  We want to be that support, while pointing them to the One that can give them deliverance from their addiction.”  Says Pastor Johnston.

The A.C.T.S. program began one year ago in May.  This past week, they celebrated one year, by taking the class to the Riverfront Park and a picnic hosted by members of the First United Pentecostal Church.

The class meets each Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the First United Pentecostal Church on Hemlock Road in Ravenswood.  For more information, you can call the church at 304-273-3100
