Lyrics Projection – Feb 5, 2012

A few months ago we got our lyrics projection system up and running.  Our setup is as follows:

We mounted a 52″ Samsung Plasma TV on the wall.  The sanctuary is 40′ x 60′ and viewing from any place is fine.  The plasma has a wide viewing angle which allows those on the platform to see what is on the screen.

From the pulpit area a VGA/HDMI hookup was installed in the floor.  This hookup will allow any Preacher or visiting Evangelist to use the display from the front of the sanctuary .  Audio from the front is attached directly into the sound system.

We ran a  100 foot heavy guage (22 Awg)  HDMI cable from the sound-booth (located in the back of the sanctuary ) to the display.  It terminates in a wall jack in the sound-booth allowing hookup of any HDMI device.  Presently this is a DVD player and a laptop.

The laptop we are using does not have HDMI out.  To attach it to the system, we are using a VGA/HDMI convertor box.  The box has a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024.

I have hooked up other laptops using HDMI and have connected at full resolution (1920 x 1080) with no problems.

For lyrics projection, we use OpenLP  on the laptop running on Windows 7.  This program is free and contains more features than some paid programs that I looked at.  It is a cross-platform, open source program.  Version 2 is currently in beta, but we have never had a problem using it during services.   I am on the development team of this project and can say it is being developed by a terrific group of individuals.  I highly recommend this software to anyone.
