A WORD FOR THE JOURNEY

As we continue talking about, "Training up a child in the way that he should go", I want to point to a few things that will help us in directing our children into Godly living. I realize that parenting is a full-time job.

Not only is it a full-time job, but it is also a lifetime endeavor. Instilling the ways of God into the hearts of our children means more than teaching Bible stories but providing them with Biblical truths that will stick with them through life.

Parenting means there will be times that will be challenging and making decisions that are the best choice for our children in spite of what they want. This is difficult. That is when we must rely on the direction of the Holy Ghost. Praying for guidance reminds us that we are not alone.

Remember the ultimate goal is not just good behavior, but holy character. The easy temptation is to merely work on behavior, but raising kids to love God, read the Bible, and to ultimately be more like Jesus. That is the goal that we should be reaching for. Within yourself, it is impossible to do these things. That is why we need the Spirit to guide us.
