Happy Father's Day

A WORD FOR THE JOURNEY

What comes to mind when someone mentions Father's Day? Are you asking yourself, should I get him another tie or another "Dad is #1!" t-shirt this year? Perhaps you have memories that are triggered by smells or sounds.

For me, my thoughts are of gardens, stringing beans on the front porch and a special stop at Dairy Queen for a banana split. I remember my dad putting up a tire swing for us during the summer. My toy guns were made out of wood that dad had cut out of extra lumber that was laying around the house.

I am so grateful for the string bean and Dairy Queen moments, but we must not forget the faithfulness of our heavenly Father.

The scripture says:

Luke 11:13: "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

Let this Father's Day be a reminder of the times that you were closest to Him and when you found Him to be your refuge. Remember the times that we felt distant to suddenly learn that Jesus was standing nearby. Yes, today, honor your father, but praise your Heavenly Father.
